"CHANGES FORESEEN"

(To the unsurprising news that the
English language is in the process of change)

They say our language is changing, so
What shall we speak about tomorrow?
Why, struggle, pain and sorrow.
They say that words change every day,
Will human nature change as well?
Not so that I can tell.
In every word and thought, indeed,
In all we hear and write and read,
We're told the world's improving,
And that the wonders of our glorious
Age will make us an enlightened race,
And yet this new world seems to me
The same old world it used to be.
The language's changing -- let's concede.
Though to this poor, old tired earth
So plagued with fools and foolish antics --
It just means new semantics.
So, let the language change -- why not?
But in these times of pain and sorrow
Let's not speak of tomorrow.
